Elcyo is an Osaka University-originated startup leveraging its proprietary Fresnel liquid crystal lens technology to advance the following initiatives:

1. Developing "Autofocal Glasses" to Automatically Protect Vision

Vision-related issues such as presbyopia, cataracts, and pediatric amblyopia are widespread. However, effective, comprehensive solutions are still lacking, leaving many to navigate their daily lives accepting these challenges as unavoidable inconveniences.

Common Vision Problems and Their Solutions
ProblemOverviewIssues with Current Solutions
PresbyopiaA condition where the lens of the eye hardens with age, reducing its ability to focus on nearby objects. It is a universal challenge affecting everyone as they age.As presbyopia progresses, individuals often need to switch between two or three pairs of glasses or use bifocals. However, frequently changing glasses is inconvenient, and using glasses with incorrect prescriptions can accelerate the worsening of presbyopia. Additionally, bifocals can narrow the field of view, increasing the risk of falls and potentially accelerating the progression of dementia.
CataractsA condition where the eye's lens becomes cloudy with age, typically affecting most people over the age of 80.Over 90% of cataract patients undergo surgery to have a monofocal intraocular lens inserted. However, since these lenses only focus at one point, patients face the same challenges as those with presbyopia, needing multiple pairs of glasses or bifocals.
Pediatric AmblyopiaA condition where vision cannot be fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses, often developing if vision is not properly stimulated during the early developmental period (from around 2–3 months to about 6 years old).Refractive amblyopia can be treated if glasses are worn consistently during the critical period of visual development. However, since children's vision changes rapidly, multiple pairs of glasses may be needed as they grow. Additionally, accurately measuring a child's vision can be challenging, leading to the risk of using glasses with incorrect prescriptions.
Elcyo is developing "Autofocal Glasses" that automatically adjust focus using our unique Fresnel liquid crystal lens technology. These glasses adapt to the wearer's needs, transforming into the perfect pair of glasses tailored just for them.

Key Features of Elcyo's Autofocal Glasses ・Automatically focuses on objects at any distance ・Wide field of view ・Thin and lightweight design ・No visual distortion

With Elcyo's Autofocal Glasses, presbyopia and cataract patients no longer need to switch between multiple pairs of glasses or rely on bifocals. In the treatment of pediatric amblyopia, these glasses eliminate the need for frequent replacements as the child grows, allowing treatment to progress with a single pair of glasses.

Elcyo is committed to addressing all vision-related challenges through Autofocal Glasses, ultimately enhancing people's quality of life.

2. Lens Development for XR Applications

As we enter the era known as the "First Year of XR (VR/AR/MR)," the development of XR-related technologies and products is gaining momentum worldwide. XR glasses, essential for delivering XR experiences, are poised to become indispensable devices across a wide range of fields, from business to entertainment.

One of the critical factors in enhancing the XR experience is the "comfort" of wearing XR glasses. For instance, there is a growing demand for XR glasses that can be worn comfortably without the need for additional eyewear, even for those with myopia or presbyopia.
By leveraging Elcyo's proprietary Fresnel liquid crystal lens technology, we can create XR glasses that allow users to adjust their prescription without the need for separate glasses. This technology promises to deliver a more comfortable and immersive XR experience. Moreover, Elcyo's liquid crystal lenses are also expected to address the significant issue of "XR sickness" that many users encounter.
Through the development of lenses tailored for the XR field, Elcyo is committed to contributing to the creation of a new world powered by XR technology.
